With so many things to think about when preparing your home to sell it can be hard to know where to start. Home staging services can help determine the most effective updates for your home to make a strong first impression with potential buyers. Aside from updates such as a fresh coat of paint, rearranging furniture or bringing in new accessories, what are some simple ways to get started that can make a big difference? First, I like to focus on the three D’s:
1. DECLUTTER: One of the first things to think about when prepping your home to sell is to simplify and declutter. Less it more! This can be tricky, given you may still be living in your home and need access your things! Investing in decorative storage baskets that you can place on shelves, in closets or under sinks can be really helpful. Use them to easily hide away excess clutter during showings in an organized way (potential buyers will most likely look in closets and cupboards, so organized chaos is key! :)
2. DEPERSONALIZE: Removing personal items such as family photos is often recommended during the staging process. As nice as they are, having them around can make it more difficult for potential buyers to envision their own lives and memories filling the space. Depersonalizing doesn’t have to mean removing all the personality from your home! One idea for swapping out personal pics is to use scenic photos or images related to your city or state instead. This can be a bit more universally appealing and a great way to bring in some local culture.
3. DEEP CLEAN: I can’t stress enough the importance of having your home as clean as possible for showings. If it’s been awhile since the last deep clean and it’s hard to find the time for it (I think we can all relate to that!), it may be worth hiring a one-time cleaning service to do a thorough job, making the next few house cleanings easier to manage on your own. Along with cleaning, occasionally opening windows to let in some fresh air is a great idea as well!
There are many more tips and tricks for prepping your home to sell quickly, but these three are a great start! Combining these with suggestions and recommendations from a home stager will really make your home to stand out!
